Bonne Annee

La Maison

Having chiseled out a large amount of rock and dug out a large amount of soil, Dan finally got the level of the extension right:

And then it snowed, so work externally ground to halt:

So Dan set to work inside the cellar of the house. Again he cut and chiseled rock, and dug dirt to reduce the level of the cellar so that we can fit the boiler and oil tank in there:

Next, Dan cut and chiseled out channels in the rock inside the cellar to place the central heating, electrical and water conduits and waste pipes:

He then had to chisel out a hole through the stone wall to the outside:

and then having got outside, he had to continue to chisel to the first terrace, taking part of a wall out in the process:

This channel is to put the waste pipe from the lavs and sinks in the house to the septic tank (a 2 nd one, serving the house, is yet to be installed):

Still not the best weather, Dan decided to make the channels to take the waste pipes running from the bathroom and laundry into the cellar:

Now what a lovely photo that was!!! But that is presently the laundry floor

Snow finally gone, Dan installed the waste pipes running under the extension through the first cellar and into the 2 nd cellar (the new boiler room):

Dan then covered the pipes with sand to protect them:

Dan then had to dig a further trench for the waste pipe for the 2 nd loo in the gite:

As the weather turned for the worse again, Dan decided to sort the levels out in the other barn which is intended to be the chambre d'hote rooms. Again this involved a whole load of digging and chiseling rock! Oh what a fun month Dan was having – not!

On the other side of the house you may recall, that we knocked down the existing bathroom and had built the walls for a 2 storey pigeonnier in its place. Well, progress continued with that this month - we insulated it with sterodur and then started to build an exterior skin of stone to fit in with the rest of the house:

inserting a back door too:

What did I do this month?

Lay on the sofa and moaned about being fat, bored and inactive – all in all a delight to live with – no wonder Dan got so stuck into those pipes!!!

Though, I did make lots of homemade meals for the freezer for Dan to eat whilst I was going to be away. I left for England at the end of Jan convinced that Alice was coming early!!
