The parishes of Florimont and Gaumier, which merged in
1827 by Prefectorial Order, were documented as early
as the Xiiith century under the names, "Floridus Mons
and Gaumerium". The parishes are rich in history and
tradition, as evidenced by the various Château, roman
churches and the maisons nobles, many of which are
listed buildings.
For many centuries, Florimont Gaumier has been reputed
for its fine wines, until the vines were diseased with
the arrival of phylloxera. Happily, the vines made a
full recovery and the Vins de Domme
grows in many of the fields
surrounding Les Terrasses de Gaumier. The chai for
the Vins de Domme is up the road from Les Terrasses
and welcomes visitors to tour the chai, try and buy
the wine. An observatory tower is being constructed so
that visitors can view the vineyards.
