There are several fêtes throughout the spring and summer months in all the surrounding towns and villages. These usually consist of an open air 3 or 4 course meal, some entertainment such as live music and dancing. It is generally necessary to book.
The Florimont fete falls around the 9th July and the Gaumier fete is on the first weekend in August.
Evening Markets
Throughout July and August our neighbouring village, Bouzic hosts an evening market whereby local producers sell their wine, cheese, melons, fois gras and meat. The idea is that you buy what you would like to eat , cook it on barbeques provided and all eat, drink, dance and be merry. This event has been know to attract over 1000 people, so its important to make a reservation which we will be happy to assist you with. Special Events
Pujols
The pumpkin fair at Pujols is held every year. Pujols is a small but perfectly formed village just south of Villeneuve-sur-Lot.
Calendar of Events
Bodegas: Most towns have an annual bodega, or street festival, where the whole town is given over to music, dance, eating and drinking. These are great fun!
Bastille day, July 14th: There are lots of fireworks displays to celebrate Bastille Day. The display at Bergerac is very well regarded.
Bonaguil fireworks and music event: Second half of July. Once a year the space below the castle becomes an arena for watching a huge display of lights, music and fireworks coming from the castle.
Evening food markets: One of the most popular summer events is the evening food markets, where everyone chooses food from stalls and then eats it at large communal tables. Usually in a town centre, and held once a week in many towns, these can go on late into the night with music and dancing.
Monpazier Flower Market

Each spring the Monpazier flower festival is held and brings a lively splash of colour and interest to the town centre.
Château de Castelnaud

We can direct you for all your tastes to Chateaux specializing in whites, reds or roses – you won’t be disappointed.
Liqueurs and Eaux de vie
Nut, peach, truffle liqueurs are all specialities of the Perigord. All can be found on the markets and you can even visit the distilleries to taste and buy. See www.distillerie-salamandre.com.

Nuts are another speciality of the region. There are several nut museums and mills that you can visit to see the production of various nut oils and then taste and buy. Truffle oils and olive oils are also widely available
Fois Gras, Pates, Duck and Goose
This is the region for fois gras. Around every corner of every street or market, there is a fois gras shop or farm, where you can taste and buy. We can also recommend some fois gras restaurants and speciality shops. You must sample some of the local dishes in the various restaurants, such as Magret de canard and Confit de canard or d’oie.
Truffles
This is the region for truffles. Whether you wish to taste, buy or actually hunt for truffles, we can direct you as to where to go.
Mushrooms and Cepes
Throughout the year, the shops and markets sell a plethora of different varieties of dried cepes and mushrooms. During the mushroom and cepes season, you will never see such enormous fresh varieties.
Strawberries
From May to July and sometimes stretching through August, fresh strawberries, locally produced, are freely available. A particular event to note is the strawberry fair at Nabirat which take place in early May. The local ladies produce a 25 metres squared strawberry gateaux which fills the entire market square and sell the cake slices which are truly delicious.
